1.Name and Purpose
  • This club shall be called Horsforth Stallions 5-a-side Football Club, known commonly as “Horsforth Stallions”.
  • The purpose of this club is to provide the opportunity for members to play 5-a-side football with the possibility of occasionally arranged 11-a-side games. It is a non-profit making organisation.

2. Club Officers

  • The officers of the club will be a Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer.
  • Each will be elected at an annual general meeting (AGM) and must stand for re-election each year.

3. Membership

  • All members will be considered as full members.
  • A full member is a person who has played at least once during the current season and paid the full subscription charge for that game.
  • Members have full voting rights and can stand for election as one of the officers of the club.

4. Playing Rules

  • Late Arrivals: The last person to arrive after 9.00pm will wash the shirts and gain no credit as punishment.
  • All free kicks will be direct.
  • Goalkeepers must roll the ball back into play underarm where they have the ball under control and they are not allowed to kick or throw over arm. If an infringement occurs a free kick will be given to the opposing team.
  • A player receiving the ball from his own goalkeepers underarm throw may not return it to the goalkeeper, and if he should do so this will result in a free kick.
  • At a free kick situation all opposing players shall be at least two arm lengths (attacker & defender) from the ball until it is in play.
  • All free kicks, except penalties, given against the goalkeeper or on the edge of the penalty area shall be taken from a distance of not less than two metres outside the goal area at the nearest point to where the offence occurred.
  • A goalkeeper leaving the goal area (except where carried out by momentum) will be penalised by the award of a penalty kick.
  • An attacker who enters the goal area to gain advantage will be penalised by the award of a free kick at the point of entry.
  • A defender who enters the goal area to gain advantage will be penalised by the award of a penalty kick. (Discretion must be used here to distinguish between accidental and intentional entry. Accidental entry, where a defender does not gain an advantage or which has no effect on the play, should be ignored). Where a defender is awaiting the ball to exit the area, attackers are to give space and not exert undue pressure forcing the defender into the box. The ball will be given to the keeper to resume play.
  • The ball must not be played above head height at any time during a game. Infringement of this rule by any player will result in a free kick being awarded to the opposing team from the point that the ball was played. NB. This rule does not apply when the ball comes off the keeper. “Above head height” is defined as clearing the head of the shortest player on the pitch.
  • Heading of the ball is deemed dangerous and is not allowed, irrespective of the height of the ball. Infringement of this rule will result in a free kick.
  • Slide Tackling is deemed dangerous and is not allowed. A player should always endeavour to stay on his feet when entering a tackle. Infringement will be a free kick.
  • For each game a referee will be selected from one of the 10 players. The referee's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Players are not obliged to act as referee and can elect not to.
  • By consensus, the officers of the club can discipline a member who contravenes these standards by refusing the right to play for a number of games and suspending membership until the member is next allowed to play.
  • There will be no right to appeal open to the member.

5. Selection rules

  • All members having played the previous week, or the last game played in the case of a break, have first opportunity for selection for the next game.
  • Any places not filled from the above will be filled according to the following guidelines.
  • Counting back through the weeks, the first member to have either played or been available to play will be selected.
  • If more than 1 person meets the criteria, by continuing to count back, the person that has had the longest playing or availability run will be selected.
  • If more than 1 person still meets the criteria having counted back to the beginning of the current season, a name will be drawn for selection from this group by the secretary and the members notified.
  • If there is more than one place to be filled, the above sequence will be followed for each place in turn.
  • These guidelines will also be applied in the event of a member becoming unavailable to play after previously being selected.
  • If the secretary is unable to contact a member selected under these guidelines within a reasonable time, in the interest of ensuring 10 players’ presence for the game, the secretary will consider the member uncontactable and continue to apply the guidelines.
  • It is each player's responsibility to inform the secretary in good time if he cannot play. Wednesday is deemed too late and is punishable by extra time in the queue, conditions permitting. Should the squad be short as a result then the subscription charge will still apply.
  • face="Arial,Helvetica">Reminders are automatically issued from the website on Thursday. Players not responding by the following monday will be deemed unavailable.
  • All members, including officers of the club, will be treated equally under these guidelines

6. POD - Player of the Day

  • A POD will be chosen by the ref each week. This should be based on effort rather than skill. At season end the Player of the Year will be the player who has the highest percentage of PODs, provided that he has played at least 50% of the games.

7. Subscriptions

  • Subscription charges are set at £3 per game, but can be amended by a simple majority at any extraordinary general meeting (EGM) called by the Chairperson.
  • The secretary is exempt from subscription charges
  • Participating players should pay subscriptions at the end of each game.
  • By consensus, the Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer can deem any week a free week depending on the state of the finances of the club.
  • Any member with material subscriptions outstanding can be suspended until such subscriptions are paid.

8. Meetings

  • The AGM will be held at the end of each season.
  • Two weeks notice will be given to all members, together with an advance copy of the accounts and voting motions to be considered.
  • The club officers can call an EGM at one week’s notice with advance notice of the matters to be decided.
  • The Chairperson has the casting vote at a general meeting.
  • No meeting of the club shall be in quorum unless at least one officer and three other members are present.

9. Amending the rules

  • Rules can be changed or new ones added at the AGM providing all members are notified of the intention to do so at the same time as they are notified of the meeting.

10. Dissolving the club

  • A resolution to dissolve the club can be proposed for consideration at an AGM or an EGM.
  • Upon dissolution, any surplus funds shall be distributed equally amongst the current members: similarly, any deficit shall be borne equally by the current members.
  • Requests for equipment can be submitted and a draw will take place for each separate item.
